LEAD MEETING - January 13, 2009

Dana Connors

Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development (LEAD) hosted Mr. Dana Connors, President of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce at a breakfast on January 13.

Approximately 60 people from around the County came and heard Mr. Connors speak on the upcoming legislative session.  The primary issue that the legislature will be addressing concerns the budget.  Because of the slowing down of the economy, Mainers are facing revenue shortfalls and are going to have to make difficult choices.

The Governor has proposed budget cuts in a number of areas, but the departments that most likely will be targeted will be Health and Human Services, Education and Transportation.  These three departments make up approximately 93% of the state’s budget.  A question and answer period followed Mr. Connors’ presentation.
