LEAD/APP Annual Meeting
Pellet plant founder named county’s top entrepreneur
Aroostook County’s entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well. This message came through loud and clear during the June 12 annual meeting of northern Maine’s two economic development organizations — Aroostook Partnership for Progress and Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development.

The highlight of the breakfast meeting, attended by more than 100 at the Northern Maine Community College Edmunds Conference Center, was the announcement of Aroostook County’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Matthew Bell of Presque Isle, founder and co-owner of Northeast Pellets, LLC of Ashland, was selected for the honor from a pool of 14 nominees.

3 County entrepreneurs vie for award
Three Aroostook County business owners are in the running to win an award that is being handed out for the first time by two partnering county groups. Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development (LEAD) and Momentum Aroostook announced earlier this week that they are poised to name one of the three as northern Maine’s 2009 Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Colgan speaks at meeting
Charlie Colgan, professor of public policy and management in the Edmund S. Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine, discussed the economic situation in the state and across the country during a business breakfast, co-sponsored by the University of Maine at Presque Isle, LEAD [Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development], and the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce.

Governor enlists Aroostook business leaders in war on rising costs

Governor John Baldacci declared war on runaway fuel costs and enlisted members of Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development and Aroostook Partnership for Progress in the fight to turn Maine’s economy around during Thursday’s combined annual meeting at Northern Maine Community College.

Modification to option 2X supported by Council

P.I. City Council reached an agreement at Monday night’s session, voting to recommend a modified version of option 2X to the state.
